DONT BELONG TO NO CITY DON'T BELONG TO NO MAN The characteristic streets of Scorpio were recognizable from the photographs that were pulled of the region. It was cold, not anything uncommon, considering it was nearing the end of October. It was sad to say, but if Rio didn’t have her job of leading the insurgency, she likely would have never really stopped around Scorpio. She was here for recruitment for the INsurgency, rallying new members to pull towards her and her renegade factions cause. She would have been gone, back to the Insurgency base, if it weren’t for an interruption from the government, who had disbanded the recruitment, putting a halt on further operations in Scorpio. Before she was able to get back, she had time to kill in the region, time she needed to spend occupying herself with other activities. Spend too long in some place and that gave time for the officials to match a name to the face. Rio to the official face of the Insurgency leader, someone who the Aldenbergs would have loved to get their hands around, to whittle down to a mere sliver of nothingness. To crumble her courage and dauntless virtues between their pale hands was a dream of theirs, something the blonde woman would continue to dangle in front of their face, much like a bullfighter would taunt a dull. Reckless and absurd? Yes, but she lived life for the thrill of a challenge. It made life as exciting as the vivid design of the city, which glowed with multiple brilliant lights.
Lamps erected from the ground up, wires strung across the scene as far as the eye could go, where Rio walked was a complex maze, one that was so intriguing to her, so different from her childhood in Aries. there, everything was square, easily laid out for the purpose of convenience, shuttling workers from their workplaces to their square homes, a cycle to repeat itself with each passing day as the sun rose each morning. it was intriguing and fascinating, yet somewhat terrifying in a way. Watching her back was something Rio always did, whether it was the government looming over her shoulder or wary of traitors amongst her own band of rebels and revolutionists. What lengths would Aurora go to put an end to her chivalrous cause? She hadn’t a single idea.
Rio took a pause. She had distracted herself once more with current matters floating about in her mind, thoughts of the ground she stood on and the future to come. She was lost once more, alone down a street way on an early Sunday morning. Alone she thought she was, until she saw the face of someone else down a bit farther. They were all alone, just like herself. A little company wouldn’t hurt, would it? Especially on a day like this, where she was off alone, worrying about just how she was to get herself out. With that, Rio approached them, nearing their location. ”Yo, you from these parts?”, she pondered, a small, yet serious smile present on her facial features. She had taken her sunglasses off, they were usually just a cause for suspicion, especially on a day where dark clouds looming over the sky.

Xo sighed. It had been a long night and the only thing he could stare at was his empty hand, which slid into an empty pocket. Another night wasted, he thought to himself, knitting his eyebrows as he ambled through the streets. He hadn't realized how cold he was until seeing his breath in the chilly October night. Snuggling into his gray duffle coat, he basked in the streetlamps. Xo embraced the cold weather at his home in Scorpio. It'd only be a few more weeks until the first snowfall and he could lie in bed, covered with blankets from his childhood and drink hot chocolate.
He watched as families headed back inside for the day into their cozy homes with mowed lawns. Everything was balanced and in order, to Xo, at least. He glanced at teenagers who looked 14 and 15 shifting in their spots and conversing on the sidewalk. Why are they out at this time? Xo wondered, but he remained silent. Let them live, some might end up in The Ophiuchus Compound. He stopped in his tracks and leaned against a lamp, scratching the side of his head in deep thought. Not earning money that night was no big deal. The bartender that didn't fall for his tricks was no big deal. He had saved up for cases like this; he would be fine. Yet anxiety started to crawl up his legs as he began to wonder - what if no one ever falls for it again? Would he have to find work or start a hobby that can get him cash? Sure, that wouldn't be an issue. He could adapt quicker than most, yet his lifestyle was one he preferred over the "norm" that lurked through the unsuspecting streets of Scorpio.
Xo's musings were interrupted by the sound of an unfamiliar voice - one that belonged to an unfamiliar face. They approached him, asking a question. He stood up straight, tilting his head, "Well, yes... I live around here." His house was around the corner - the smallest one on the street. It wasn't that he started out poor; he just didn't find it necessary to buy a larger house simply for the purpose of being flashy. He observed the other, looking at their smile and wondering if he should be cautious or not...

DONT BELONG TO NO CITY DON'T BELONG TO NO MAN “Oh thank god, I was getting lost in all the pretty shit around here. I’m not from anywhere near these parts”, Rio said, smiling slightly, in an attempt to alleviate some of the harsh seriousness that came with her more formal persona. “The name’s Rio, nice to meet ya”, she introduced, though not formally offering her hand out for a handshake, just cause she wasn't sure whether this someone was to be trusted too easily. She really wasn’t someone to tame easily, nor hold by a mere thread to one place. Wandering was never infrequent for her, and her message was spread far and wide to anyone who wanted to hear it, or even those who didn’t want or have the brains to comprehend that the people’s voice was rising, demanding to be heard. Keeping anything in the dark only left it to rot and crumble, to succumb to the forces of destruction and demise, who was to say that populace did not function in a similar manner? A life held by the cold grip of fear for what may come was not a life Rio would succumb to living. If she was the match to wooden planks well oiled by gasoline, then so be it. She’d go down in flames for her cause.
“Look, I’m on the run, can’t really be spotted here”, she murmured, taking a quick beady glance around, as to scan for any unwanted visitors, to where she saw none. “It’ll only be for a few hours, but I’d really appreciate it if you’d let me crash at your place”, she offered, smiling ever so slightly, taking a glance at the person in front of her. With that, she reached into her back pocket, her fingers running over the leather of her wallet. “I’ll pay you some good cash too”, She offered, holding the paper currency between her fingers, flashing it to the person she saw.
She wasn’t afraid of the government, but that didn’t mean she didn’t want herself to get caught. She would never be okay with her hard work tossed away like shit, she had spent too long, fought too hard for it all. For it all to end would be horrible. The Insurgency wasn’t exactly the cash cow of the century, and there wasn’t exactly any display of their logo being permitted on anything work in all 12 realms so yeah, that kind of put a merchandise fundraiser out of the question, meaning that money was a pinch tight for the group. Rio’s personal cash was mostly spent on things for herself, not for the group, and she be giving out those funds to this person rather than her group cash stockpile.

Some odd stranger... Xo raised an eyebrow, patting the area where he was scratching his head. But they have money... He shook his head. Not in a way to say "no," but to try and collect his thoughts after having such a session. He contemplated his options - say yes and take the money, or say no and stay anxiety-ridden until the next time he saw a wad of cash. Even after telling himself that he didn't need the money, that he had already saved up for emergencies, his hand slid out of his pocket, only to drop. Rio claims to not be from those areas, that could mean danger. Danger... A feeling Xo was always conflicted on. Yet it wouldn't be bad; it's not like Rio can pull out a knife and start stabbing him there if he says no. The teenagers still loitered on the sidewalk and would be worthy witnesses.
"Okay, Rio, you can stay at my place... under one condition - don't touch any of my food unless I tell you it's alright." He forced a smile, only for it to turn out looking like a smirk. Maybe he could get some more cash out of this person. People can't go too long without eating, and if she had gotten lost then she hasn't eaten in a while. Demand dough where it's needed. Rio getting hungry would only mean a thicker pocket for Xo.
"Uh, and," he thought about extending his hand for a second, then decided not to, "I'm Xo. Xo Amani... it's spelt X-O. That doesn't matter, though." He rolled his eyes, breaking their eye contact and gazing at the street corner, where his home would be just four houses down. The one on the right, no decorations, no lights, no outdoor objects, nothing. Only the place he considered his home.
